Speculation about the future of the European automotive sector has recently gained momentum. The possibility of giants such as Stellantis and Renault, which are of great importance on a global scale, coming together could lead to a new dynamic in the sector.
Stellantis and Renault merger rumors denied
Recent media reports have raised rumors that Stellantis and Renault may merge to become a new power in the automotive industry. However, senior executives of both companies denied these claims.
Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, said in a statement at the factory in France that the merger allegations are just speculation. Likewise, Renault CEO Luca De Meo stated that the company does not pay attention to these rumors.
However, according to the media, the merger claim is not limited to this. According to the news, German automotive giant BMW could also be involved in the talks as a potential third partner. BMW’s expertise in electric vehicles was very important for European manufacturers.
Stellantis and Renault’s top executives will meet at the automotive show in Paris next week. “As always, I greet him,” De Meo said when asked what he and Tavares might talk about at the show.
The French government’s view on the future of Stellantis and Renault is also of strategic importance. The government owns 15 percent of Renault and 6.1 percent of Stellantis. French President Macron may want De Meo to head the new group. However, company executives denied the merger allegations in official statements
